Bridges and tunnels are lifelinesPeople have tackled seemingly insurmountable obstacles, including vast canyons and mountain ranges, to design and construct these amazing passageways. Bridges and Tunnels: Investigate Feats of Engineering invites children ages 9 and up to explore the innovation and physical science behind structures our world depends on.Trivia and fun facts illustrate engineering ingenuity and achievements. Activities and projects encourage children to learn about the engineering process and to embrace trial and error. Children will engage in a hands-on exploration of Newton’s Third Law of Motion and of forces that push and pull on structures. They'll make an egg bungee jump and a soda pop can engine. They'll experiment with a triangular toothpick dome, liquefaction, and corrosion. In Bridges and Tunnels: Investigate Feats of Engineering, children will explore their own engineering and building skills as they create several bridge models.

Well, I can't say it's the finest book I've reviewed--because I already said that on another book in the series! (The Canal/Dam one.) So, I can only say, it is the "SECOND BEST BOOK I'VE REVIEWED!"Another really fun book, supposedly for kids, but like the canal/dam book, I really enjoy reading about the great tunnels in the world.I hate to repeat myself, but I have to. Once again--Congratulations are in order to the author Donna Latham, for a SUPERB, PROFESSIONAL & POLISHED book. Also to illustrator Jenn Vaughn. Some of those illustrations are really funny and cute. I like the designer at his drafting board, with the cat peeking over. (And isn't there one showing some guy falling off a bridge?)► WHY YOU SHOULD BUY THIS BOOK ◄This is the SECOND BEST book I have ever reviewed! Fascinating description of engineering marvels of bridges and tunnels. Plus, the illustrations are really excellent and add a lot of spice to the book.► Top 3 Things I liked ◄♦ Excellent illustrations of each engineering wonder.♦ New terms are explained clearly in each chapter, under "Words to Know."♦ Fun seeing how tunnels were built (and sometimes didn't work!) "Nervous workers never knew when Nitroglycerin might go off!► Things I didn't like ◄ Nothing. I am hard pressed to name anything I didn't like.► RATING OF KEY FEATURES ◄♦ Readability: Well-written, lots of fun!♦ Quality of Illustrations: Really added to the dialogue.♦ Quality of Table of Contents: Good. Points to the different chapters.♦ Quality of Editing: Excellent. Very well organized; clearly someone has spent a TON of time creating this work.♦ Thoroughness of Index: Extremely thorough! There is also a glossary of terms.
