THE CHRISTMAS WISH is adorable. The photographs and costuming are charming, and Lori Evert has managed to write a simple and compelling story that is likely to please adults as well as children.Besides the beautiful photography what I liked about the book was the kindness exhibited by Anja and the animals. Anja, for example, before she heads out to find Santa so she can become one of his helpers, visits a elderly neighbor. Anja catches the widow's cat, so that the old woman won't have to go out into the deep snow to do this, and then Anja sweeps out the woman's sauna and does some other chores. I found this very appealing and suitable to the season and what I want my children to learn.THE CHRISTMAS WISH is not a book with an emphasis on the religious reason for Christmas. But It still fits the season because of it's emphasis on kindness.============I've reviewed this for my website. There are sample pages there.
An adorable little girl, gorgeous winter landscapes, and instantly familiar animals, all gloriously put together by a superbly talented photographer.Norway has rich traditions in handcrafts, architecture, and particularly in fairy tales. If you have even a passing familiarity with Scandinavia, you'll appreciate rich but subtle references in Anja's finely handcrafted Norwegian clothing and accessories, the iconicaÅly Norwegian farm buildings, and various cultural and literary references in the story itself. If such wonders are unfamiliar to you, you've been missing out and this book will be the perfect introduction.This is a simple but magical book and an instant classic.
This is a remarkable book! I bought it for my 3 yr. old Granddaughter and it arrived today. It FAR exceeded my expectations! Although the draw for me was our Norwegian ancestry and the beautiful photographs (and the fact that Anja and our Granddaughter could be twins), the message wins the prize. This is a must Christmas book for every family, and not just one with young children. I am ordering 2 more just because I know I'll give them away. Should get some sort of prize!
What an adorable Story! No wonder the New York Times voted it best children's Christmas Book. It quickly sold out at all the majorbook stores and was a real treasure when I was able to order it on ....I bought several copies to give as special gifts. Adarling story but it's the photographs that grab your heart. The little girl's father took the photos of his daughter and the mother madethe Christmas Story to go with....don't miss this one.
Absolutely wonderful book. Full page beautiful photos with the main character. Addresses every child's special wish while introducing them to a different part of the world. It will surely become one of our top holiday books. Highly recommended.
I just bought this book to share with my grandchildren this Christmas and found it a nice, warm break from the heavier book that I am reading (Arctic Adventure: My Life in the Frozen North. I am looking forward to sharing this with them as they will surely love the winter wonderland so beautifully described through the sweet story and beautiful pictures. I know they offer this book for Kindle, but I would recommend the hardcover for the stunning photographs!
The pictures alone are worth the price, but the story is also wonderful with its simple, and much needed message.
This is a gorgeous book! I bought it as a Christmas gift for a young relative, and was tempted to keep it for myself. Wonderful pictures and a magical story, reading this to the little ones could become a Christmas tradition. Don't see how you could go wrong, if you like the magical side of Christmas.
