I also found this book at TJ Maxx for $3. Before my son was born I went on a hormone induced shopping spree for all the books I had as a kid and anything that looked fun. I really loved the simple but bright artwork, little did I know what a big hit this would be. starting at 6 mos my son was able to recognize this book progressing now at 11 mos to grab the book climb in my lap and have me read the book over and over again. sometimes he will just sit on the floor and flip the book and kiss the baby on the heads are big page. I am buying another copy for a friend and hope she gets the same joy from the book as our family does.
This is a very clever book, with comparisons such as "Ladies are big, lady bugs are little". The illustrations are beautifully hand-painted, and kids like that they are simple, colorful and cute. This makes a great set with the author's other books (Yummy Yucky, Quite Loud), and I hope that they're offered together in a boxed set soon.
The pictures in Leslie Patricelli's books are great. That is probably my favorite part about them. All of her board books, including this one, have very few words on each page. My son especially enjoyed them around the time her was 12-15 months and wanted to help turn pages often. I could still get through the text before he was ready to move on. He still likes them at 2.5, but he now has more patience for more words (most of the time).
My daughter absolutely loves this series by Leslie Patricelli. She's only 22 months and already has memorized a few of them!! Good addition....but I don't like the bass drum page. Just me being picky.
I found this book at TJ Maxx for $3, and what a bargain! The pictures attract you, since they are simple graphics, not all busy on the page like some other books we've looked at. Also, the words are so simple and fun, ie "Trees are big. Dandelions are little." It's perfect for my little baby girl. I recommend it to all looking for young children's books.
I love Leslie Patricelli books!They show opposites in a way that young children understand,without the grown-up lecture.Because she uses only 1 or 2 words per page, it makes the adult reader elaborate,which is really interesting.The illustrations are cute, and she keeps it real but funny.Very appreciated & a must-have on baby's shelf, preschool, and a hit with new parents.
Adorable books and simple to read to my 8 month year old. The colors and simple text keep my baby's attention and he likes to look at the baby. I recommend to parents with babies under 1, though you can definitely use this book longer as you point out things happening in the book.
My daughter loves the Patricelli books (we have all of them). She has memorized the easy dialog and now "reads" the book to me! I also catch her repeating the dialog when playing with her toys (i.e. when comparing the sizes of two toys) so it is a very good teaching tool.
