The book has historical significance as well as botanical accuracy and a proper and pleasing aesthetic presence. The book leaves space to write in, but really it's not a diary. I would not write in the book. If I wanted to keep any science type journal, I would write in an accompanying journal. The plants are those from a German garden in the 1600s. The names of the plants are grouped into the four seasons. Their Latin names are included as well as their common names written in German, English, and French. According to Wikipedia, the gardens were destroyed by the Swedes centuries ago, restored, painted, engraved, and then finally this book was printed in China, sold in America, and delivered by . It feels like a found treasure with a lot of worldly connections.

It would be extremely helpful to include the day of the week. I know why they didn't include it (I think) so it can be used for any year, but it's sort of worthless for keeping track of anything important unless you have days of the week on each page.

I bought this as a birthday gift for a friend who is an avid gardener. She just loved it and cant wait to start reading it everyday

A magnificent journal to record memories or garden progress. Day to a page with the most exquisite botanical art on each page.
