Wow!The life of Laura Ingalls Wilder was amazing. What is more amazing is that her real life can and has been documented so fully. This book is remarkable in that it provides detail that has been presented for a middle school to grade 10 level student. My daughter loves Little House, and this book captured her. As a father, I was surprised to find out that Rose's agent was involved with the Michael Landon series.Highly recommended and profusely illustrated.Great for the fan.

The DK Biogaphy of Laura Ingalls Wilder' by Tanya Lee Stone is very similar to most books written about Wilder's life. The author provides a short introduction that discusses who Wilder was. The book provides a very brief discussion about the Ingalls and Quiner clans before Charles and Caroline married, but the majority of the book is about Laura's life (no surprise there).Stone provides a detailed account of Wilder's life. Adult fans won't learn anything new, but it was interesting to see the number of archival photographs. There are familiar ones of the Ingalls and Wilder families, but also pictures of the towns when they lived there and of other people, places and things from the pioneering era. I also like how there were fact boxes included on some of the pages with additional information about The Homestead Act of 1862, the railroad, pioneer teachers and more. One tiny nitpick from page 115 states The Happy Golden Years, which was published in 1943, was about the early years of Laura and Almanzo's marriage. This book is about their courtship and ends with Laura inspecting her new home after their quick wedding. The First Four Years is about Bessie and Manly's marriage. The author mentions this book on page 119 and correctly states it as such. A young reader might be confused by this, especially if they haven't read the Little House books yet.I was surprised I didn't have this book as part of my Laura Ingalls Wilder collection. I'll have to correct that error soon.

I think if Laura was alive she would really like this interpretation. She originally wanted to write an auto biography that spoke to children and adults about the time period of westernization to industrialization of the U.S. How it really was for ordinary, hardworking people. I love the softness and the matter of fact tone to this book. I collect Laura biographies. This is a gem in my collection. This is the one I pull out when someone who wants to know about her and never read anything about her life. This is the one I shared with my own sons who want to know more but I don't want to overwhelm them. The actual photos weaved through the book drive home the points of her life that were so compelling and made her come to life. If you love Abraham Lincoln, you should also read Tanya Lee Stone's book about the most beloved president. I could feel through her writing what it was like to walk in his shoes.

It is a great small book to read with your children, so they can learn how they lived in the 1800's. Highly recommend.

I found this book to be interesting and informative about Laura ingalls Wilder's life. The way the writer pointed out bits of history was helpful in getting idea of how things were done in that time. I enjoyed reading this book.

I really enjoyed this Biography of Laura Wilder. It was very easy to read and had descriptive things along with easy to follow 'time lines' of when things happened with Laura in her lifetime. They didn't leave anything out and throughout this book are lots of photos of Laura and her families; also various other photos of 'what it would have looked like' or newspaper articles or even photos of letters when Laura got her teaching certificate and when Pa got his homestead etc. I really enjoyed reading this book. And as far as the DK Biography books I'm looking forward to reading more of them on various people. They are wonderful Biographies

Anything about Laura Ingalls Wilder is good, and this book is authentic, too.I loved it, and would recommend it to others.

So very interesting to learn about the real Laura Ingalls and her life in a history long ago past in the west.
