I have two boys, 15 months old and 3 1/2 years old, and both love this book. My 15-month old not only begs me to read it to him, but is starting to learn to identify numbers (and many other objects) from it. My 3 1/2-year-old likes it on a different level, to "spy" the objects. Highly recommended.
I had never purchased an I Spy book before this one so I didn't really know how my son would react to it, but he seems to really enjoy it. I definitely think the search pages have an appropriate amount of items for a 2 yr old to search through without getting overwhelmed. It is also a good book to practice counting because all the items on the search pages correspond to the number shown. For example, the number 2 search page has a pair of shoes, a 2 of spades playing card, binoculars, etc. The only thing I find odd about the book is that it stops at 9 and the cover shows up to 11. I think this is because it was adapted from another I Spy book that is geared toward older kids, but I feel they should have at least included the number 10. You don't typically ask kids to count from 1 to 9 when practicing counting, 10 is usually the stopping point (or 5 for younger kids). It's not a huge deal, and definitely doesn't take away from the search and find factor of the book, but it's just something I wanted to mention since I found it strange. Overall a good purchase.
Learning numbers becomes a fun activity with this book. Every page has many colorful items to search for which will capture the interest of a child for a long time. My two year old daughter greatly enjoys reading this book over and over again. The book is also popular with older children due to its fascinating pictures.
My 2.5 year old really enjoys this book. She is learning numbers so it ties in slightly with that. The picture quality could be a lot better and it would be nice if they listed more things to find on each page (they list about 2-3 each page, she would enjoy it more if there was 5-7 each page). While I can ask her to look for more things, these are great books for the car and I cannot help then.
My 2 year old loves these books. We started with I Spy Letters and now for Christmas I bought her Little Numbers and Little Animals. These books have so much to offer. You read through the story and learn the numbers, that's great. But there are also many other objects to look for and name. I swear, these are increasing her word knowledge/vocabulary daily. And she loves them, she brings them to me to read and also just looks at them on her own sometimes.
Great book. The pages are smaller and not as jumbled with things to spy as the hardback books are; but still, for my 3 year old who is learning her numbers and letters, this book is gonna make a great gift.
I love this book but I must say for this age group a book with so few pages should really be a board book. My other complaint is that the cover depicts numbers 10 and 11 even though they are not in the book :(
I was used to the big books that older kids look at which are more like "where's Waldo" with very busy pictures and more challenging. But these books are great for preschoolers. They have the same kind of things in the pictures but with space between, not so busy, not so challenging, but like I said, great for a preschooler to hunt for objects and probably just enough challenge for them. Also, there are other options for using numbers like dots on dice or counting objects.
