Even though several of the reviews say that these books are too young for any child over the age of 3, I disagree.We have 3 of these books (this one, I Spy Wheels, I Spy Letters) and my son, age 5, is still enjoying them, but in just a different way. We now play "I Spy" the traditional way with..."I Spy something that is yellow and floats." And then I have to guess what he is talking about (i.e. boat). And then I do the same. We continue until we have described everything in each of the pages. Yes, it takes a long time to go through the books, but it is so wonderful for his critical thinking skills.Any now my 21 month old daughter gets to enjoy these books. They just don't wear out! One of the best gifts around!!
I got this for my 2 yr old granddaughter. She is constantly wanting to pull this out and look for the "hidden" pictures. It's very simplistic, so would probably not be good for kids much older than that.
When I ordered this book I thought it would be a little beyond my 18 month old's ability. I was amazed when she was able to find the hidden objects - and delighted in doing so! I can see where it will easily grow with her over the next year. This was more than a book - an interactive puzzle!
My 18 month old would read no other books than the I Spy series for a whole week! They have shown him in a simple way the association between words and pictures. He adores them!
The book is great. For being paperback, it holds up well to my 2 year old. There are lots of things on the pages to learn. It can be a bit confusing, there is so much on each page, but it really makes you look. There are lots of different shapes & items. It's great for teaching your child new words, etc.
Bought this for my 3 year old granddaughter for her birthday. She enjoys the I Spy and Seek and Find books that are designed for older children (4 - 5 year olds??). Those books were challenging for her, but we looked at them so often she got pretty good at finding the objects independently. I thought these would a bit easier, but they were "a little too easy". Nevertheless, if I take the time to have her search for additional objects on each page, we can make it more entertaining. The searching goes quicker because there are fewer objects on each page. Good starter for the I Spy books, but I wish they made something in between this series and the books made for older children.
My almost 2 year old grandson just LOVES books. I can only hope his love of them continues throughout his life. He enjoys hunting the pages to find the hidden objects. It keeps his interest for a long time, and he points out other things as well. All the I Spy books are great!
Book is super simple; Two "I spy" items per page. I wouldn't read it often because the thrill of 'finding' the item is lost when you can remember exactly where it is from day to day. My 20-month old has fun pointing to other items on the page and having me name them.
