I guess I just took it for granted that the pictures would be in color.I was not really familiar with these books, and picked this one up for mydad, who enjoys puzzles. He had been doing word searches for years and I thought thathe might enjoy this, too. Well... he does enjoy well enough, but it is like acoloring book, black on white.I somehow missed that in the description of the product, so heads up on that.
Older son loves this one. It does NOT show a picture that they must find (which I thought it would do), but rather has a list of things they must find (written out). Thus, my 2nd grade son (who reads) loves it, but my 5 yr old son cannot do it, unless his brother reads the terms for him. But, it is a very popular book for my boys!
The age range listed is 4-8. I bought this for my almost 7 year old, but the captions are too advanced for her. I wouldn't buy this for anyone under 8, unless it is a very advanced reader who can appreciate subtle humor. I'm giving it to my 9 year old and I think he'll love it, so my lower rating is just because of the misleading age range.
I choose this because my kids love hidden pictures, and thought that they would enjoy it during a long car ride. Surprise! The love the book -- but more for the state fun-facts as the hidden pictures. Great choice.
As one reviewer stated the pictures are all in black and white. I too thought they would be in color. This was to be a gift for a 4-year old who likes to find hidden objects in pictures. It should be clearly stated in the description that these are not color pictures and I would raise the appropriate age to at least 8 and above.I like books that are made for finding objects but I had a difficult and frustrating time trying to solve just one page. The images are very close together in the picture which adds greatly to the challenge.If the person you intend to solve these pictures is an adult (with excellent vision and a lot of patience) who enjoys something different in puzzles this book is for them.I regret my purchase and will donate it to a charity.
What fun!! Took this book to my grandson, age 8, and I saw he and the babysitter working together to find just the right missing picture! A wonderful book to have right there on the kitchen table for those times between school and sports to enjoy!
I purchased this item for my Mom. She was delighted to receive them. She said that these puzzles were much more challenging than the books that she previously purchased. They have themes that proved to be more fun in uncovering the hidden objects.
My ten-year-old, who is homeschooled, spends time each day with hidden picture books. This has helped her to gain a focus and attention to detail that she had lost in conventional school. This one has the added bonus of American Studies which is perfect for her fifth grade area of study.
