My (10 year old) daughter loves these little stories. They are not puzzles that you work out logically; you have to apply your knowledge in the situation; if you don't know the tidbit of information, you can't solve the problem. Most of the pertinent facts are pretty well known, and all are explained clearly. Some of the problems are pretty easy, others are more advanced, and a few are little tricky. A good balance.
I shared this book with my 9 year old granddaughter; we enjoyed reading the stories together and trying to figure out the answer before we turned the page. It is a novel way of bringing the scientific method into our lives.
Science can be a highly entertaining and appealing subject, if presented right. "One Minute Mysteries: 65 Short Mysteries You Solve With Science!" is a collection of simple science experiments to get children motivated and excited by science. Encouraging critical thinking skills, it teaches children to think quickly and scientifically. "65 Short Mysteries You Solve With Science" is a highly recommended purchase for science teachers who want to introduce a bit of extra fun into the classroom.
This is a cute book of science anecdotal mysteries. Written with his daughter, it's easy to see how the stories were crafted to fill time and entertain a mature elementary student or even a middle schooler who is also a struggling reader. Although we are enjoying the mysteries as light diversions, they are not nearly the depth suggested by the editorial review on the  page. Also, they take into assumption a basic knowledge of scientific facts; no real "solving" is involved. It's more of a "did you catch that" sort of story.
We bought the One Minute Mysteries for use with our 7, almost 8, year old daughter. They are fun and educational.
My 8 y/o daughter and I love this book. She begs me to read her 3 or 4 "mysteries" each night before bed. It's an entertaining way to learn about some basic science principles displayed in the world around us.
Most of the "mysteries" are not all that mysterious. There are a few good ones. As a teacher, I might pick some of the more interesting ones to read to my class. But I wouldn't give the book to, say, my grandkids. They'd be too bored to stay with it.
I am a middle school science teacher and these little puzzles are fun to do with my students if we have some extra time after a lesson. They're nice and short so the students do not get bored easily and the answer is there for each riddle
