It can't be argued that there are scenes and monologues in this book that are from some truly great plays... but for the most part I would say the subject matter is too heavy. "Great" scenes or monologues for kids would be fun, not depressing. I teach theatre to middle schoolers, and I had a hard time finding material out of this book to use.

Nicely assembled and presented: motivated scenes with conflict and character development. Culled from original work, these are wonderful scenes for young actors. The monologues are also from full length plays and are excellent and challenging.

Most collections for kids this age are full of fluff and corn. This is an exception. The selections here are very well written and thought provoking. My middle school drama students were excited to work with this material. I have volumes 1 and 2 and would highly recommend both.

Wonderful short scenes and monologues for young children!! As a children's theatre teacher, I have used many of these monologues for final demonstrations for parents as they are just the right length for children ages 6-9.

This is the best scene and monologue book I have found for my 11 and 13 yr olds to practice for acting class. Very contemporary without some of the over dramatics of other scene books. Easy for this age group to understand.

While a lot of these scenes are from decent plays, I find most of the cuttings are substance-less for an acting class. Lots of exposition, not a lot of interpersonal conflict, not much to break down on a GOTE sheet. Lots of scenes too short. Would not recommend

While the selection is good -and it's great to have books for kids that come from actual scripts, and not written by a single author, I wish there were more monologues.
