Take your place in the Globe Theatre of Shakespeare's day to see seven of his best-loved plays in performance. Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, Julius Caesar, The Winter's Tale and The Tempest are all brought vividly to life in Marcia Williams' gloriously accessible comic-strip versions, which include the bard's own dialogue and the rowdy remarks of the audience.

I am a huge fan of Shakespeare, but the only problem is the Shakespearian language. When my family and I visited Shakespeare's house, we saw this book and bought it. Once I started reading it, I fell in LOVE with it! The book is set up like a comic book, so there are pictures of the characters "acting" out the play. Under the illustrations, there is a summary (by Marcia Williams). In the comic strip, the "actors" sometimes quote some of Shakespeare's lines. To the left and right of the comic strip, there are "play-goers" who tell the reader what they think of what's happening. The book has 7 plays and when you read them, you can understand what's happening at the same time as feel as though you're there. There is also a second book (I think it's called More Shakespeare plays) and if you liked this book, then I highly recommend it!

We love this book. It has been a great intro to Shakespeare for our son and a good reminder about a plays details if we forget (a kind of illustrated cliffs notes). We also are comic book fans so this was an easy way to get excited about Shakespeare and now the kids are fans too. We own the book Tales From Shakespeare and it has the same plays as this one so be careful not to order a duplicate if you have the other.
