I am a long time note reader but never really got the theory of chords and how to use them to embellish my hymn playing at church & home. This book helped me a great deal actually, even though its oriented toward introducing newbies to the piano. I have played the piano technically well for years, but i couldn't play anything but what was written on the page. Now i can do significantly more thanks to this book. I bought two copies for friends in simlar situations.

My daughter and I are learning to play piano together. I got The Older Beginner Piano Course for myself and this book for my daughter. This book is utterly useless compared to my book. It is formatted like a novel. It's all reading and theory in the beginning. No child would sit through all that, much less understand and retain it. I'll be using my book to teach her. It has simple exercises that teach the theory as you go.

Sorry, Scott, but this is not written for Kids. I may keep it for maybe a summary for adults, in my opinion!I love Scott's ideas, so do not turn down some other of his work without checking it out.

I love the book entitled "Play Piano in a Flash for Kids!: A Fun and Easy...by Mr. Scott Houston. Yes, Mr. Houston, you are my favorite piano playing guy! I bought this book selfishly for myself, but ultimately for my two grandkids, Jayden and MiKayla. My desire and hope was to learn the basics myself since it was written for kids (or as I consider myself on the list of self-help books written for "dummies"). So, the idea was that my grandkids would hear and see me playing and grab hold to music and desire to learn as well. Yes, my wish is being realized. Thank you Mr. Houston. I may never play like you or Beethoven, but I enjoy myself tremendously. However, I do desire to play well enough to play the keyboard at my church. Can you help me personally with that? lol

I have always liked the Piano in a Flash series, although some pieces are not well suited to block chord accompaniment. The children's book seems to have been written as an afterthought. I have been teaching piano to children for many years and would never use the same curriculum as I do with adults. The matter of fact presentation of theory misses a great opportunity to enlighten children with interesting historic tidbits and insights. To be fair, I compose most of my children's curriculum and use tricks and techniques that are not commonly found in teaching methods. I.M.H.O, June Weybright and John Thompson were outstanding in their approach, while the Alfred Basic Piano Library provides a smooth and solid structure that is theory based. That said, I do recommend the other Piano in a Flash books.

I tried it with my son and it was far too hard to get started. They presume that you can read music, and unless you can, you will get lost quickly. Also, it's such a small book that it won't lay flat on the music stand. It's not really kid-friendly.

Good brush up for anyone wanting to play the piano.

Great way to learn piano and have fun; I'm not a kid but a beginner and I'm having fun with this Play Piano in a Flash for Kids! I would recommend this dvd
