I'm not a big fan of omnibus editions, but this has to be one of the best examples of doing an omnibus right that I've ever seen.Cardcaptor Sakura is the story of 4th grader Sakura Kinomoto. One day, while looking around her father's library, she stumbled across a mysterious book that, when opened, released mischievous spirits that dwelled inside cards called 'Clow Cards'. Now Sakura, with the help of the guardian best Cerberus (Kero-chan for short) must collect all of the cards, or a great tragedy will befall the world.I did not ever purchase this series in English. I really wasn't ever too terribly pleased with the way Tokyopop chose to handle it back when they first released it. When I heard that Dark Horse was publishing an omnibus, I cringed a bit, because, while Chobits was a great translated and preserved masterpiece, its presentation was so bad that I still am hesistant to drop $25 on it. However, when I saw this in my local bookstore, I decided to check it out.First of all, the size is considerably better than the Chobits one, it's more on-par with their Clover omnibus, thus it's much, much easier to hold and read it, and it's not going to fall apart quickly. Yay! They don't attempt to put 700 pages into a standard-sized book. There are close to 500 pages, but the size is much larger than a standard manga, it's the size of most of Viz' Signature / Ikki series, actually.Second of all, the translation has been fixed up- it doesn't have the rewrites and such that the older Tokyopop/Mixx editions had, thankfully. It's pretty close to the original version, and I think they handled many things (like Kero's accent, for example) very well.
