SUMMARY: Mr. Pout-Pout Fish is having a hard time trying to decide what to get his friends for Christmas. He wants them to be big and important gifts and he wants them to be special. He goes to one store after another looking for the perfect gifts, but fails at each one. He feels that he will not be able to go to the Christmas party because he has nothing to give his friends. But Miss Shimmer comes along and teaches Pout-Pout a little something about the gift of self. This changes everything for Pout-Pout and his new perspective helps him enjoy Christmas to the fullest.ILLUSTRATIONS: I always love the little details of Dan Hanna's illustrations. In one store you can find items lost at sea such as wallets, golf balls and even a coffee mug. You could also buy a massage in a bottle (instead of message), Blackbeard's other beard, or Mr. Limpets glasses. I enjoy looking at each page slowly just to pick up the many delightful background details as well.REVIEW: What I love about the Pout-Pout series is that he always sees the negative aspect of things, but Miss Shimmer comes along and teaches him how to look at life from a positive perspective. Everyone ends up loving his gifts because he makes them himself and he knows his friends and the kinds of things they would want. In the end of a Pout-Pout story, it always boils down to good friendships winning the day. I love this message. This is a wonderful book to read before you do your own Christmas shopping. It will help keep it real and remind you about what a large portion of Christmas should be about.AGE RECOMMENDATION: Ages 2-6

We are huge fans of the Pout Pout Fish books in my family. My daughters love listening to them while looking at the fun illustrations, and I love reading them! While this book does not disappoint with what we have come to expect from the content, illustrations and the rhyming, I did feel as though the repetition part of the book was not as catchy or as cute as in it's predecessors. Don't get me wrong...it wasn't bad, it certainly was good...I just wouldn't say that it was my favorite. The message of the story is a great one,and it opened up a nice conversation for my girls and I afterwards. Overall, awesome book and I would definitely recommend it to others!

I love the whole pout-pout fish stories. I have bought 2 copies already this year one for my daughter and one for my niece. I also had my job at a daycare order these books because the kids love them and will sit there and listen to the whole story and want to hear them again. Definitely one of my go too stories to give as gifts.

Excellent book. My toddler son loves all of the Pout-Pout fish paperback books. I also really like reading them to him because they are written in a sing-songy way that makes it fun and easy to read over and over and over and over and over ... if you have a toddler you know what I'm talking about.

This was our first introduction to the Pout-Pout Fish series and I have to say, this book was a lot different than I expected based on the title and cover art. I had guessed that the story would be about a grouchy fish that needed cheering up to get into the Christmas spirit with the help of his close friends. I did not expect such an important and relatable theme and lesson to be the real root of the story.Mr. Fish starts off by making his Christmas to-do (and to-buy) list with all good intentions hoping that he will be able to bring joy and happiness to his dear friends. He goes from store to store in search of the perfect gifts and because of one thing or another leaves empty-handed and dejected. Crushed that he has all but ruined Christmas, he ends up learning (with the help of one of his friends) that the best gifts come from the heart and he turns what was a stressful and unsuccessful gift hunt into something fun for him and meaningful for his friends- a great lesson for all around this time of year! The story is also told in a nice rhythmic rhyme so is fun to read out loud and since there are parts that are repeated throughout the book, kids will be able to memorize the "chorus" (for lack of a better term) and chime in.

My 2.5 year old toddler just loves this book. In fact, he likes the other books in this series too. We got this book on Christmas and I've been reading it to him everyday (on his request of course!). The lines rhyme well but could have been better.

We have a couple pout pout fish books and they are all so adorable. The Christmas version does not disappoint either! I actually may like it better than the original book. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a Christmas themed rhyming book.

Perhaps not as great as other Pout-Pout fish books, but certainly festive if just a pinch bit commercially oriented. The illustrated jokes are 5-star though, so I see why the fish spends so much time at the shops.
