I don't know if it was posted on that this was not the full version of the original or not. I'm sure it did and I just missed it--but in case others didn't see it--don't buy it if you want the full version. The puppet fish is kind of cute, but it gets in the way of my 2 year old who likes to turn the pages herself. I'd buy the original if I were to do it all over again.
The way this book is condensed is awful. Neither my husband or I could figure out the message, which seemed to be "you have to give people what they ask for or you won't have friends". And the puppet makes it hard to turn the pages
This was a great gift for a toddler. The finger puppet is small, and so are little hands. It's a classic. My kids are adults and they enjoyed it as kids. Now that it's in a board book, it can be enjoyed and "read" with hard use and it will last for a good, long time!
My two year old gets frustrated that she can not close the book because the puppet fish needs to be pulled through front. Wish I would have gotten the original book instead. Very cute pictures and story. Very colorful
The Rainbow Fish puppet almost imposible to obtain today, but this board book has one inserted in the center (can't loose it, can't fall on ground) for your youngster to manipulate (or Dad--keep him busy!).
My daughter loves this book! We have the larger full story of Rainbow fish for our older girls (4 and 5) but this version is perfect for our 20 month old. Great story and the fish puppet is just darn cute. My only complaint is that the pages are very thick foam core so for the first few pages, you can't really make the puppet move because there is too much thickness around it.
See the debate on the longer version. This shorter version is horrific as there is not room for subtext. I don't know what the publisher was thinking.
Rainbow fish was one of my favorites as a child. I bought this for a friend of mine who is having a baby soon and had a fish themed party. She thought the finger puppet was super cute. I think it adds a little something extra to an already great book.
