My 19-month-old love "The Pout-Pout Fish" and "The Pout-Pout Fish in the Big Big Dark", so I was really excited to order this lift-the-flap book for him. I assumed this was an entirely new book, so imagine my disappointment to discover most of the illustrations are take from "The Big Big Dark". There is really nothing new in this book. Plus, at the end, the Pout-Pout Fish is supposedly still looking for Miss Shimmer, but because they used illustrations from previous books, she is shown on a lot of the pages leading up to the end. My little one loves the two books I listed above, and usually really enjoys lift-the-flap books, but he has barely looked at this one. We read it a couple of times, and now he just pushes it away when we pick it up and gets one of the other two. If your child has never read the other Pout-Pout Fish books, they will probably like this one, though.
Story leaves a bit to be desired. Don't expect the same caliber as the original as far as originality and rhyme scheme. But the tabs are great fun for my one year old. (Illustrations are recycled from another pout pout book about the being afraid of the dark)
My son's absolute favorite book is the original "Pout Pout Fish" by Deborah Diesen so I was excited to purchase this new addition for his library. Perhaps he might be more interested when he is a little older (he is currently 14 months) but this book doesn't keep his attention at all. There are practically no words in it - just pictures and the little hide & seek flaps. Would be so great if there were some of Deborah's fabulous rhyming verses to go with the flaps!
Great grandsons LOVE Pout-Pout Fish! Thank you for writing more, the first one I bought I could recite every word and tell you what's on every page. P-P is a charming character and I highly recommend these books.
My daughter loves this book! The only thing is that even after many uses the tabs still stick and it's hard for her to open them. But other than that it's great!
I love the Pout Pout Fish book and this is a cute follow-up, but not as good as the classic. It's a lift-a-flap book and it has some cute characters, but my daughter doesn't love it like the book.
My son loves this book! He received it for Christmas and he has picked it out for bedtime almost every night since then. He has some of the other books as well and loves them all....great series!
I gave this 4 stars, not because the story is great (it is actually awful - nothing to it), but because my son LOVES it so much. All he wants to do is lift the flaps and turn the pages.
