My 5 year old and I loved the first and third books in this series. The writing is witty and we were excited to figure the mystery out. This book is a bit repetitive and although the characters' personalities are more defined, one of the chicks is not as good natured or willing to help as we originally thought. It's supposed to be funny, but it comes off as obnoxious and irritating. After all, the purpose of the Chicken Squad is to help those in need, right?Still, the writing is grammatically correct and flows well. That is an issue I have found in a lot of children's books and it is refreshing to read a well written series. Since we enjoyed the others in the series, I would still recommend it; Cronin is a very clever author!
My 7 year old started reading these books this year. He loves the whole series and reads them each several times! They are humorous and have the mystery element that is intriguing and age appropriate. He loves to read these and we love reading them to him!
This sequel had NONE of the charm and humor of the first Chicken Squad book, which was just delightful. It was short and banal and a big disappointment to my grandsons and me. We had laughed all through the first book and had greatly anticipated the sequel..
The only thing that I haven't said anything about is that the book was that I think it's great for anyone over 5 years of age.
The characters are funny and also I know it by heart. I have read some other books by Cronin and they were great too.
My eight year old really enjoyed the story and hopes there are more to come in this series!
Large type, helpful pictures, funny story line: Great story for beginning chapter book readers.
My six year old daughter loves this book! We have read it sooooo many times!
