As "touch & feel" board books go, this has been a favorite of our grandsons (despite being a "hand-me-down" from a generous sister-in-law who'd donated many a toy into my grateful hands over the course of the seven years I spent babysitting!) Though ours arrived with baby kangaroos who appear to be holding hands mid-air supported only by their tails (since their legs were apparently amputated by my nephew) on one of the two pull-tab pages, the book was in remarkably good shape (a testimonial to its sturdy construction) . It features many more textures than similar books in our collection, not to mention adding many new words describing those textures to our grandsons' vocabularies! With an interesting array of animals beginning with each letter of the alphabet (so many of which are not your garden-variety type youngsters learn about early on), and a glossary of three additional animals/items beginning with each letter that provides for a fun "safari" search feature, this is really a unique book that stretches a child's knowledge beyond where books like these typically take them.So what exactly ARE all of these texture words? "Scaly", "bristly". "scratchy", "wrinkly", "bumpy". "velvety", "scruffy". "furry", "whiskered" "sticky", "soft & squishy", "rough", "hairy", "fuzzy", "shaggy", "silky"... just terrific! Other nice teaching features other than its "Alphabet" title include colors (green, yellow, pink, blue, gray, orange), other descriptive words that are nicely represented ("shimmery" & "shiny".
