Harcourt School Publishers Signatures: English As A Second Language Library Book Grade 1.1 Here Are My Hands (Owlet Book)
Read Free Books and Download eBooks

Ideally suited to the board-book format, Here Are My Hands invites very young children to respond spontaneously and creatively as they learn the parts of the body. The rhyming text and bold illustrations do more than name the eyes, ears, nose, and toes. By featuring children of many different backgrounds, the book quietly celebrates the commonality of people around the world.

This book was a gift and will be a gift for others from us. It taught my 1 year old through it's wonderful sing song rhyme to it's beautifully colorful illustrations, her body parts in two days. She brings it to me and can't read it enough. We highly recommend this for any age.

Somehow, my 14-month-old started identifying several of her own physical features (including "neck"!) by close approximations of their names after only 3 or 4 nights of reading this book before bed. Very shortly after, she started pointing out the same features in pictures of animals and people around the house. The illustrations are crystal clear in their intent, with only the last two pages presenting any difficulty (one covers elbow, arm and chin in one breath, and the other is for skin, which I imagine is tough to illustrate). I would recommend this book to anyone teaching the easy body parts to her/his child.

I'm buying a copy of this book for my new nephew. My son has loved this book since he was 6 or 7 months old and now, at 14 months, he still smiles when he sees us pick it up. The illustrations are realistic enough to keep his attention and the rhyming text is short and sweet. I'd also recommend another Bill Martin Jr book for older kids, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. It's an alphabet book that my 4 1/2 year old loves. Weeks after her teacher read it at school, my daughter is still talking about it. We're buying a copy of that too.

One of my favorite books for little children. I heard about this book almost 30 years ago when my son was a baby. I bought it then and read it to him so many times the book nearly wore out. "Here are my hands for catching and throwing...here is my head for thinking and knowing"... not only does it teach kids the parts of their bodies it ends with a big hug. I love this book so much I am now buying for the next generation of kids in my family. This one's a keeper.

This is one of my daughter's favorite books. She learned about her hands, feet, head, eyes, etc. when she was only 8 or 9 months old!! It also is filled with kids, of all races, which makes it fun to name each one!

The soft cover version is very hard to read because the most important part of the illustration (the body part being discussed) is in the center crease. It is hard to see it without flattening the book completely. Also, most pages describe how the body part functions while some pages talk about things you can do to the body part (ears are for washing and drying? hmm, not what I would first think when explaining how we use our ears.)Otherwise, I like the illustrations and text.

One of my very favorite authors. Can't go wrong with any of his books. This one is perfect for newborn to toddler. I have to add to this review that I wrote months ago. My grandson is now 10 months old. Out of the many wonderful books I've given him, this remains his number one favorite. I've read it to him almost daily since he was only a few months old along with other books. He sits in awe as we turn each page. He taps the page and now talks to each character. He has his favorites and smiles when we come to those pages. I already knew Bill Martin, Jr. was a special author for children and Ted Rand's illustrations are perfecr for his stories. So I don't hesitate to purchase his books. I didn't know that this book would be my grandson's favorite.

My daughter, who is 15 months old, has absolutely fallen in love with this book the last month or so. It is one book she'll always bring over for me to read to her. The illustrations are fun and colorful and the "story" is cute and rhymes wonderfully. This book was a great find.
