I bought this for my 5 year-old grandaughter. She is an avid horse fan and rider. She loved the book, which was full of age-appropriate information regarding horses.
Even though my grand daugther is only 4 she really enjoys listening to this book read to her. I'm sure it is written for older children but since she is so in love with horses right now she hangs on every word. My husband & I have learned a few things too.
Could be better. Some unnecessary information. Could do without the slaughter references and have more focus on horsemanship like grooming, what brushes are called, how to clean hooves, parts of tack, riding apparel etc. The talk about shooting horses with broken legs and old horses being sent to slaughter....really? For kids? Thanks for that...
I bought this book for my daughter's 8 year old friend. She loves horses and everything about them. This book is very lovely; has a lot of illustrations and is written so that children can understand and learn. My daughter's friend loved the book!
We have owned horses for years and I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my daughter. Not sure who loved it more, her or I?! LOL But it is still read to this read and referred to throughout our trail rides. Some great information in that lil ole book.
I grew up cleaning stables and taking care of horses , this book was very interesting learned some new things even though it was for my kids we have had a lot of fun telling each other interesting facts from this book.
