My 6 year old loves this book. She was just barely ready for a level 2 reader...was scared to try one...and did great with this book as her first level 2. It was engaging, informative, and nicely illustrated. She is now obsessed with Cheetahs as a consequence of reading it multiple times to herself, to her sister, late at night when she wakes up...I tried this also as the first Penguin (All Aboard...Reader) to see if we like them as much as the DK and National Geographic readers. I have to say that this was better than I expected and that being written as a story without all of the pop ups and little side note boxes...this was a much nicer format for a distractable child and made the flow of information much more seamless. We'll buy more of this series of readers for this reason. We like the photographs in the other series mentioned...maybe more than the illustrations in this book, and as for information, it did not exceed the National Geographic but flowed better. The levels in this series seem less difficult than the DK Readers...just as a comparison. A level 2 here might be a level 1 in the DK Readers.Very worthwhile reader...overall, I'd take it over the comparable National Geographic one.
Very cute pictures, nice story. Bought it for a little girl who LOVES Cheetahs. It is a bit long, but great pictures. The only issue I have is when the cheetah hunts she bites the antelopes neck to cut off it's air. (paraphrased, but pretty graphic/detailed). Yes, it's accurate, but too much information for a young child.
This is a lovely book for kids about four who are curious about the world around them and nature. The illustrations are lovely and colors saturate each page with vivid images that bring the African bushveld to life. Educational without being boring. A lovely book.
I was very pleased to get this book and immediately loved the text and illustrations. As I continued through the book though I found that it went on too long and got into subjects (humans trying to kill cheetahs) that I found unpleasant for young readers. If it had ended several pages earlier I would be giving it five stars--the cheetahs drawings are adorable.
Cheetah Cubs is a fun introduction to the life of a cheetah. It follows a group of young cubs from den to den with their mother, and then through their training and into adulthood. This book captivated my daughter (and is very timely for us, as our local zoo will be welcoming some cheetahs soon) and was enjoyable for me to read, too.
My daughter read this along with a couple of other books to prepare for the oral report about cheetahs and their habitats that she had to give while presenting her cheetah habitat diorama to her class. Its good information was easy for a first grader to absorb and present to her class.
This book was ordered to go along with our unit study on grassland safari animals. It was a very sweet book. The drawings were realistic enough to make me happy and my boys (5 and 7) enjoyed the pictures and the sweet story of how a mother cheetah cares for her babies. A great addition to any homeschool study or just to have in your at-home library.
My daughter's in first grade and is into cheetahs so this was perfect for her. Great for beginning readers
