Oh my gosh I love this book!!!! I love how it ends so very much. It is totally awesome for girls who love to paint and draw and ride horse's
Touches on some very real life lessons. I like the way these books teach girls in a realistic way. Excellent
When I gave this to my granddaughter, Sage, for her birthday, I had no idea the story was set in New Mexico, where we all live! The girls even look alike! What fun it is to read about places that she knows firsthand! Couldn't be more perfect and I am hoping to inspire her love of reading!
I read the original American Girl books when I was young, and now my seven year old daughter enjoys reading them. I love that there are new characters and their stories continually being written - Saige is my daughter's favorite :-).
Saige listens and then talks to the horses in a gentle, persuasive way. She trots, cantors, and gallops in time to the push of the wind and the rumbling of the sky. Changing direction exercises options: coaxing the reins finds parallel dimensions. Before her, the invisible takes shape.
The people that write these books seem to essentially all write the same plot, that the friends of the specified girl either have a right to knowing everything the AG is feeling and thinking, as though no one has a right to any privacy. OR the friends have their passions and make new friends, and blame the AG for having her own interests. Tessa was like this. This sends a poor message to the girls reading these stories. They have a right to their privacy, and their own interests, and to make the friends they want. The thing that most bothered me though is the message that to "love" a horse means it can be treated like an object or toy, for people's amusement. I personally am opposed to all venues that exploit animals, including rodeos, etc, but really disliked the girls teaching Picasso to do "tricks." Would any person like to be commanded to perform tricks for people's amusement? Authors of books for children need to be aware of the messages their books send.
