I got this for my 10-year-old daughter who is interested in all animals but especially the ones that are dangerous as long as they don't get too close to her! She loved this book. I have long disliked when publishers advertise other books inside books but with this one, I didn't mind all that much. My daughter saw the ad for the creepiest or craziest (or something like that) sea creatures one and asked for it as well. At only $4, I couldn't say no. I don't agree with the politics that National Geographic sometimes sneaks into their publications but these were pretty neutral and very informational. My daughter has read them over and over and loves to read me interesting facts from them.
I bought this for my eight-year old grand son for his birthday. Like me, he loves animals and easily retains interesting facts about animals that he shares with everyone who will listens, and it is amazing how much he has learned just by reading. I bought this book mainly because I want to instill in him a love for animals that my sty with him throughout his life. I chose this book because I knew Nat Geo is famous for their photography and this book did not disappoint in that respect, and it was easy enough for my grand son to read, and I thought he would like it. He did. His mom did too, to an extent. She has arachnophobia and she did not like the photo of the Sydney Funnel Web spider, not that I blamed her. Though not severely suffering as she with arachnophobia, the photo even gave me the creeps!!! Despite the nasty eight-legged beast, the book was great and my grand son loves it! Great seller too, by the way! Thank you very much!
Children love animals, so just imagine their reactions as they read National Geographic Readers: Deadliest Animals. I can already hear the shrieks and screams of young readers as they come eye to eye with a Sydney Funnel Web Spider, cringe when they see the practice of bee bearding, and look twice as a polar bear rips into a seal with its sharp teeth. Most of us think the African lion is one of the world's deadliest animals, but National Geographic has narrowed down many other of the Earth's most dangerous creatures that include red kangaroos, oak processionary caterpillars, rattlesnakes, saltwater crocodiles, and hippos. Weird but true facts are scattered throughout, and deadly definitions introduce young readers to words such as prey, herbivore and carnivore. In true National Geographic style, young readers will be amazed at the vibrant photography, but they'll also be wowed by the toxic tidbits that introduce them to the life of native rain forest peoples, and compare the tentacles of a box jellyfish's body to basketballs. My goosebumps still won't go away from those pictures of the Sydney Funnel Web Spider.
I love all of these books! My 6 and 10 year old boys enjoy reading the fun facts and researching more information on the animals that they find REALLY interesting!! I would recommend to parents with children that don't yet LOVE to read. This will get them really interested in learning more and reading more!
I enjoy my Grandson's homework reading and this book along with other National Geographic books are great. He picks out weekly which one he would like to read out loud. He loves science and learning about the world so these books are perfect, they even have silly jokes. This one is about animals that are known to be killers but what we are learning is that is not necessarily the case but the nature of the world. I recommend all the NG books
My son will love it. Colorful pictures and plenty of animals plus little tidbits. Right up his alley. It's a very thin book, I didn't count the pages in it, just surprised when I saw it. I guess the photos comprise the $4. I don't mean to sound petty but, I was expecting something different. All in all, he'll love it.
I bought several of this books for my children, they love them so much that they have now a big collection, and I love the fact that they actually read them and are learning a lot, they come with different reading levels for each child reading skills.
Great magazine, I enjoyed reading it to my two year old and making the animal noises. She knew most of the animals as we are Nat Geo fans in my household. But when I told the story with a sinister voice and lots of action, she loved it.
