In the main this young adults picture book with text is about the musical forms and instruments of the Baroque era. Well done are the explanations of cantatas, counterpoint, the Italian style music, French style music, oratorio and open-air music but these do not make a strong link to specific Bach masterpieces. And the book fails to give a strong account of J. S, Bach's personal life. His childhood, education, married life and personality are scarely mentioned.The best part is a serious 2 page essay, at the end of the book, on some of Bach's masterpieces with the BWV number. The sister publication "Mozart and Classical Music", in the same format, has better explanations and a fuller biography.
