Sitting high up on the highest shelf of the tallest bookcase in my family room is an almost real looking, miniature Egyptian sarcophagus. Unbelievably, it's made of paper, glued together by my kids from a little Usborne cutout kit called "Make this Model Egyptian Mummy." I was more than a little skeptical when I ordered it. Boy, was I surprised...First off, for them (and their mom) this was a highlight of our study of Ancient Egypt.Second, they (and I) learned a lot about how these things actually looked.Third, they built it without any adult supervision.Fourth, they actually got along while doing it.This is the way homeschool should be.This model was was a recommended resource in The Greenleaf Guide to Ancient Egypt (Greenleaf Guides).

I was very happy with the quality of this product. When assembled the paper cutouts make a stunning sarcophagus. It is quite intricate in order to make it so 3-D, just be prepared it is not a really fast, overly simply project. The only thing preventing me from rating it 5 stars is that I would have liked more text to explain the design elements used to decorate the mummy and sarcophagus (inner and outer coffin). We used it for a 4th-6th grade homeschool class and more background info would have been helpful. The kids LOVED the project.

This cut-out was really fun to make. I do alot of the Usbourne cut-out models and this one is one of my favorite! The end result is something really impressive and is worthy of being put on a shelf for display. Great for teaching especially for homeschoolers! Difficulty level is about a 6.

This is an amazing paper model book of a multi layered sarcophagus and mummy. The colors are bright and overall historically correct. Children will need help and supervision between the ages of 8-12. It can be cut out with scissor for younger children or a scrap booking, model straight knife for older kids and adults. Scrap booking clear glue with a 2 way applicator works best for assembling it. When your done it is a nice sized model that displays well on any shelf.
