Yes the book is aimed towards the young but to me it was fascinating and I am 50 years old so if you like adventures this is a book to read.
After reading the first book I was really looking forward to reading this one. However, the author spends waaaaay too much time describing everything and everyone. It was hard fighting the temptation to put it down and just give up on it. I think maybe if you hadn't read the first book than maybe all the description would be needed, but I still think it is excessive. Then the book just ends with no warning. I seriously had to keep flipping pages wondering if I had missed a chapter. It was like the author just decided to stop right in the middle of the story. Not sure I will read the next one.
My son is only 8 but finding books to read to him that are not too young or too complicated or scary or violent is difficult. My son likes good characters not evil or snotty characters. I enjoy reading this book to him everyday. This is the 3rd book in the series and we will finish this and then move on to the fourth one for sure.
My daughter loves these books. She has to do a couple written reports every quarter and always chooses one of these books for one of the reports. Very imaginative, and she can relate to the characters.
I checked out the first book because it was free and really enjoyed the light read filled with mystery and fun. Although it is a children's book and not what I would normally read, I find myself enjoying the adventures and a little bit of escapism from our world. This series is sure to become a classic for years to come.
We read this as a family (two adults and an 11 year old daughter). The first book was pretty good. We listened to that on a summer road trip. However, this time around the story seemed to drag and drag. Description came across as overly detailed, and while our daughter generally liked it, she was disappointed in the end. It's not horrible, but it wasn't great either.
I bought this book for my neices (9 and 7). I was trying to get them to read more, at least one of them. So I got them the first book in the series. And told them I would buy the next book in the series when they finished the first. They love the story. I also read the book and had a great time talking to them about all the animal and events that take place. It was a great way to spend quality time with 2 of my favorite girls.
It is funny in some ways but yet it is like a mystery book because of the shadowist. I read all of Bryan chick books. I love this series. I would recommend it for people who like funny books, mystery books, are age level is 10 and up. I was nine when I read the first book of the series an I didn't understand it but now that I'm ten I understand what they mean.
