Spectrum Math provides great math workbooks like this one. When my fourth grader found math difficult, his teacher recommended this book for extra home practice. This book includes essential concepts that need to be mastered by every fourth grade student, such as multiplication, division, fraction, decimal, measurement conversions, geometric figures and algebra preparation. It also contains mid test, final test and well-explained answer keys. It not only provides specific support in the skills and standards that my son is learning from his class, but also offers test preparation to support test-taking skills. This focused practice for math mastery supports my son's math learning all the way. He loves the tricks and voluntarily makes up his own problems to solve. He's already seeing how the techniques help him in his normal math work. He is now probably the top math student in his class. In the Beestar online math tests (a wonderful website beestar.org, which provides free math program), he is ranked high in the honor roll. I’m very pleased with this book.
My daughter was pulled out of public school in December and started homeschooling in January. She was having difficulties in Math in school leaving her very frustrated and us worried. She finished this 140 page book tests and all in under 90 days. Some areas we looked up easier ways to complete online but it was good to see her accomplish something she was considered to be slow in while she was in school, I have confidence that she will be fine when she goes back to school in Aug :)
It's good old fashioned math. I home school and use this is our daily curriculum. Very clear and definitely none of that common core crap math of confusion and tears. This gets the job done beautifully.
My daughter is really improving. She is able to jump around to avoid boredom. There is a summary test at the end of each 5 chapters that will give you an idea of what your child has learned. The only criticism is there is not a great deal of space for the student to show work. Next edition, leave more space to solve problems.
I home school my daughter 4th grade, and this Math workbook is great! It gets right to the point in all the lessons. I've used Abeka and Bob Jones curriculum and they were much more complicated to teach, not to mention so ridiculously expensive. I love that this book makes it simple to teach, and for your child to learn.
Overall, this is a very good fourth grade math book, as it touches on various concepts a fourth grader would need to know, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, angles, measurement, area, perimeter, algebra prep, etc. We found 2/3 of the book very useful. My two quibbles with the book are 1. that the first 40 pages are too easy (busy work -- although perhaps some kids might need it?), and 2. that the book has at least one incorrect answer on page 101, lesson 6.16, question 3. (The answer should be 3/7 but the book gives 1 3/14 as the answer. The book's answer seems to be answering how much is left, rather than how much he drank of the total, which was the question.)Despite these quibbles, I would order this book again.
This is a great tool for me as a homeschooling mom. This book challenges my 8 year old son by expanding and building on subjects he is familiar with as well as introducing new material. I love that it makes my job easy and affordable to homeschool my child. It would also be a great tool to use for a child who is on summer break from public school. There are many subjects such as rounding, word problems, writing numbers in word form, and much more
For me this is the best book in the market to work home with the kids. I'm using them for around 6years.I'd like to ask the publisher : why they stopped at 8th grade? I'm a math teacher from the French system where the things are kind of more harder. So I'm in a good position to tell you people that SPECTRUM MATH is a reference.
