Even older kids can benefit from this SHORT synopsis of the causes, events, and aftermath of the US Civil War. Emphasizing economic differences, the abolition movement, and the slavery question in new territories, the book does a good job of giving the context of the times in the US East of the Mississippi in the 1850's and 1860's.Interesting photographs and art. The book even discusses the 13th and 14th amendments. There is a statistics page and a glossary, including words like: abolitionist, assassin, blockade, confederate...Easy reading level, good information.

Great resource for some down and dirty Civil War facts. Super kid-friendly and packed with pictures/fun side notes. Would recommend!

This is an excellent overview and review/introduction to the Civil War, well received by my 4th and 5th grade group

This is a great resource to have in your library if you are a teacher! That is why I got it.

This book was bent which caused a small tear on the spine. It's paperback, but I expected it to be in better condition.

this is a great book for kids to learn about the civil war

4th grade grandson really enjoyed this book.

love it
