I have given this book only 4 stars because I wish there was a bit more to it; however, I have enjoyed using this book in the classroom for my middle level students during our Colonial America unit. They found it interesting, to say the least. One of my students even referred to the book in his final exam essay, which pleased me tremendously! I recommend this book for young adults and upper elementary.

Little known facts about the lives of the Colonials who inhabited the Eastern portion of the U.S. Deodorant, toileting, personal hygiene and the like were far into the future, waiting to change the scent of daily life. Deodorant, soaps and detergents that smell fresh and pleasant, daily bathing, among many other countless items we take for granted in the 20th - 21st centuries was not available to our forefathers and their families. The Colonies must have indeed, been smelly.

My students we so grossed out by this book... but in such an AWESOME way! I had them eating out the palm of my hand and begging me to continue reading the gross facts found in here!!!

Entertaining to read as well as educational to give young students a look into how life was in the colonies. Not at all like it is today for most of us..

Great Resource - Educational and gross enough for the kids to LOVE!

It is very difficult to find what interests my 8 yr old grandson but this book did the trick. The book has solid information about Colonial Times while engaging a young boy's mind with the smelly and disgusting.

Was a mothers day present , wife loved it. She is always asking questions like this about the period, and she loved this book. She is looking for more in depth stuff on this subject.

I purchased this for my eight year old Grandson. He loves it and I will have to order some of the other books in this series
