I am taking my 8 year old granddaughter to Amsterdam and we will be visiting the Anne Frank House. I wanted to find a book that she could read and get an overview of Anne's life in hiding. The original transcript of Anne's diary is understandably not appropriate reading for an 8 year old. This book provided an overview of Anne's life that will make our visit to her hiding place more meaningful for my granddaughter. The frightening reality of the story is not compromised in this book and yet the information is presented in a way that is appropriate for the younger reader.

A wonderful book for a child age 8 which discusses a difficult topic. Gives enough information with out going overboard. My daughter was very interested, and it brought up some good discussions.

Do not waste your money on the kindle version unless you can read it on some other device. I bought this book for a class assignment, but on the kindle, even by double tapping, the page does not even fill the screen making it extremely hard to read. For me, this was a total waste of money and a large disappointment with the kindle fire. It is a good thing all kindle books are not like this or it would be impossible to read them. As it was, this was very hard to read; should include a magnifying glass to enlarge the print. Maybe, after thinking about this a bit, this is a publisher problem, and if so, I doubt I will purchase anything from DK publishing ever again for the kindle.

I have fond memories of reading about Anne Frank when I was in middle school so I got this for my 6 year old to give her a bit of understanding at a young age. Things that I had forgotten were covered in this book, it was well written and easy her her to understand and me to explain. Very impressed that they have these books for early readers.

Great reader about Anne Frank. Child appropriate information without going into too much of the gorey details. I read this with my daughter and she is very excited to visit Anne Franks house. We loved the real photos along with the drawings.

Anne Frank lived a secret life with her family. She had to hide from the Nazis and she wrote her experiences in a diary. This is written for ages 4-8, however I would recommend it for ages 6-8. This story has more complex sentence structure, information boxes an alphabetical glossary and a comprehensive index. When Otto gave Anne a red and light-green checked notebook with a metal lock, she never imagined the impact she would have on the world by writing her thoughts down. This is in a story format with snippets from the actual diary. There is a picture of the place Anne hid and a picture of Anne Frank. This book just brings her story to life for young children. When people think of Anne, they think of her courage, her sense of humor and her hopes for the future. The actual diary was first published in America in 1952 as Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. Anne dreamed of becoming one of the most famous authors in the world. I just wish she had lived to realize her dream. For me, Anne Frank is symbolic of everything that is right about life and everything that is wrong about war. Thankfully Miep Gies kept Anne's diary which sadly, she had hoped to return to Anne. I think this book will help younger children gain a new appreciation for the lives they have and realize that not all children were as lucky to live the life they live.Inspirational and sad, all at the same time. I have also reviewed the movie called: The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) which shows the beauty of the her spirit in the midst of an evil and ugly war.~The Rebecca Review

This is a good way to read about Anne Frank without reading the entire diary. Most middle school girls will enjoy and benefit from the entire diary. The only part I don't like about this book are that it does not go in chronological order. I am using it to teach 5th and 6th graders.

This format is not suit to read on kindle. Pages don't fill up the whole screen and don't flip over. You can only read in horizontal position of you kindle. Don't have any of the future of ebook - can't look up words or make large font. Waste of money ! Better buy paper book
