The cover & info gives the impression that you scratch & the shopping characters will appear but this is not the case. The child has to draw the entire character themselves. Only color come up. My daughter was disappointed. It's not what we thought we ordered. Considering what it turned out to be, it's overpriced
My 7 year old daughter got this book just yesterday. It is very cute and she loves it. There is a picture of a shopkin on one side of the page and you draw it on the other by scratching off a black surface. The downsides are that it leaves little black specs all over. There are only about 20 pages to sketch. She actually finished it in one evening. A little pricey for 2 to 3 hours of fun.In hindsight it would be perfect for 3 hour airplane ride, as it would keep a child occupied. We are traveling next month and I wished I held off giving to her.
My 5-year old daughter really enjoyed the book. She's really into Shopkins so had a great time copying the designs and seeing the rainbow colors appear as you sketch (scratch) the black layer on top. The only negative is that there is a pretty strong odor (kind of like gasoline) that emits from the book.
The only reason this was not a five star product was because the black sheets are blank. I thought it would have a dotted line of the characters to make it easier for a child to trace and have pictures of their favorite shopkins. My daughter is 9 and tried very hard to draw the characters, but struggled a lot. Other than that fact, it was a fun product.
