The book is really for older kids, as the examples they use for each letter are way too advanced for young children (H for hammerhead shark...yeah by 1.5 year old really gets that). Also the touch and feel part is pretty sad. Most touch and feel books we have use multiple textures and many examples, this one uses maybe one touch per page, and it's either glitter or a weird plastic thing over the body of a fish. Not really very textured at all. I was very sad about this, my guys love the pout pout fish books, so we were very excited that this was being released. It's a bit of a letdown.
Let me start by saying that I ADORE Pout-Pout Fish. We just discovered the series this year, and I love the story, the illustrations, the rhymes... it rocketed to my "favorite board books" list almost immediately. I would try to convince my 3-year to choose it for his bedtime story every single night. So, when I saw that this was coming out (and was even the #1 new release in children's fish books!!), I pre-ordered like a boss.However, this book is just not good. The touch and feel aspect is probably one of the worst I've seen: only one texture per two-page spread, and the textures are extremely redundant and boring. Almost all of them are a raised page sections (sometimes the raised sections are shiny), a few with glitter, one sticky, and that's about it. The content aspect is also lacking - there's no story, no rhymes or words at all, except something like "S is for Sea Horse" (which, by the way, is one word, not two). So, two or three of those per two-page spread. This book tries to do multiple things, and it just doesn't do any of them well. If you want touch-and-feel, go with My First Touch and Feel picture cards or the That's Not My... series. If you want alphabet, look for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, LMNO Peas, or Dr. Suess.
My son LOVES Pout Pout more than any other books and was so excited for this book to come out. It's super cute and has great colors. We were a little disappointed with how few touch option there are in this book though.
Most disappointing book in the Pout Pout Fish series. The "touch and feel" is just sad - only one illustration per two page spread (anywhere from 2-4 images) has any texture. As others have said, all but a few are just small raised sections or glitter. I would not have purchased it if I had seen it in person first.
Ok we love the Pout Pout Fish and this is not a bad ABC book. Eventually my little one will say jellyfish or hammerhead shark. But glitter?! Why?! I don't know what possessed them to put glitter in a baby touch book.
