These stories are nice because they are short and sweet, which doesn't allow kids time to get bored and in fact leaves them asking for "just one more!!". The messages are subtle, so it doesn't feel preachy although it is giving very powerful messages. The way that Bunjitsu Bunny is presented is perfect for my 6 y.o. daughter. She always wants to be the best at everything, and Bunjitsu Bunny is a great example of humble confidence. I will be buying more books from this series, as we finished this one within a couple nights.
This book is WONDERFUL! I've done martial arts for many years and devoted my life to them, and although this is a children's book, I really enjoyed it and found the advice both hilarious and comforting. I read it to my granddaughters who are interested in martial arts. It's a chapter book, so very appropriate for kids reading at that level.
A perfect beginning chapter book! Isabelle is the best bunjitsu artist of her grade; "she could throw her classmates further than anyone". In this book, each chapter imparts some type of zen wisdom, wrapped in a hilariously funny elementary school-ish setting. The girl bunny heroine, the marvelous Teacher who tells Isabelle how to conquer bad dreams and challenges her to defeat a wave, the cricket who brings good luck -- it is all wonderful. Run to your library and get a copy of this joyous book which is easy enough for 1st graders to read but that teaches lessons even grownups need to master.
When the bunny was knocked down he was really strong and got back up. It made me want to be the bunny. There was a promise to be made to be a good artist, to make someone smile, be friendly to a friend. I really liked this book I would like to read more about Bunjitsu Bunny. This review was written by my grandson.
My 6 yr. daughter is really into martial arts and ninjas. This book was perfect for her. It teaches a lot of the tenets of martial arts training and a bit of Zen Buddhism hidden in there too. Broken up into little stories that you can read all together or take your time.
Isbael Bunny is wonderful at martial arts. She is probably the best student in her bunjitsu class, which is why everyone calls her Bunjitsu Bunny. How did she get to be so good? Bunjitsu Bunny knows something very important: the best student isn’t always the one who yells the loudest kicks the hardest. Self-control and humility can be just as important as strength. In a series of gentle and funny short stories, Bunjitsu Bunny illustrates her many virtues in true Zen fashion. Where other students might lose their cool, Isabel calmly uses her wits and patience to navigate tricky situations. What should she do when the bunjitsu school is locked? How can she handle a sparring match with a much bigger opponent? How can she learn to conquer her nightmares?Independent readers will be charmed by Bunjitsu and her lessons, and the Asian-inspired illustrations complement the tales perfectly. Isabel will spark some great conversations between children and their parents and will be an especially sweet role model for kids who are interested in learning martial arts.Read-alikes: The Three Ninja Pigs, Ninja Red Riding Hood, Winnie-the-PoohThis review originally appeared on ABookandaHug.com
This is a early chapter book all about Isabel who is the best bunjitsu artist in her school. The book is a series of short stories in which Isabel uses the techniques that she has learned in martial arts to solve problems. She teaches those around her that it's not all about the power fighting she can do with her body but it's more about the things that she can to with her mind. She uses those problem solving skills to help put in many situations. We liked this book because it made a great readaloud in our homeschool because there is a lot we were able to discuss in terms of the lessons learned.
We love this book! My seven-year-old and three-year-old daughters love this book. The book is comprised of lots of sweet, short stories that have great lessons to teach. I highly recommend!
