This board book has a nice, thick cover. The chick on the cover has a fuzzy body insert.Pg 1: Chicks, with fake medium length yellow fur.Pg 2: Horse, with short brown fur.Pg 3: Sheepdog, with long white fur.Pg 4: Lamb, with woolly fur.Pg 5: Pig, with sandpaper.Pretty standard touch items, but not much variation. I liked the Wild Animals board book better.
The touch and feel books by DK are terrific. The photographs are large and wonderful and the items to feel are an excellent tool for your youngster. These books are fine for very young babies as well as toddlers. Your child will learn the name of each animal as well as the sound the animal makes. The first coherent sound my son made was "Moo". These books are perfectly sized for you and your baby to read. Moreover, your child can even read to him/herself as the board book pages are thick enough for a young child to turn. I recommend all of the DK books. As your child grows, the series grows also. These books also make a wonderful birthday or holiday gift. Highly recommended.
We have 4 books in this great series, and I am really impressed with their quality. They don't have tiny patches of semi-touchable fabric, they have BIG areas of very soft (or rough, or leathery, or whatever) feelable material. The chick in this one is all covered with a really chick-like soft yellow fuzz, the sheep is covered with real feeling woolly material, and so on. Fun for babies and ages on up to adult!
It's a small book (only 6 pages) HOWEVER! It's the only book that I've seen that truly has large textures! I purchased 6 touch and feel board books from and this one is my favorite. My 3month old also reached out to feel the dogs hair! She did not do this with any of the other books.
All of the touch and feel books make great books for babies, even as young as 3 or 4 months. The pictures are attractive to infants. My son loves the different textures.
I have a 17 month old and a 3 year old and they both like this book. I use it with my 3 year old to help with his sensory issues, and I use it with my 17 month old to help expand her vocabulary. Recommend!
My daughter has loved this book since she received it for her one-year birthday. We can't read it to her enough. She loves to pet the animals over and over again! I'm glad to learn there are more in this series!
Wishing there were more pages... the quality of the cover/pages is wonderful; however, the "touch and feel" portions/fabrics/furs(sandpaper is used for the head of the pig) are, in my opinion, poor quality and NOT tactically nice. This book might be better if it has more pages.... Not really appealing to me or to my almost-2-year-old; he has only requested to read this book 2 times out of the hundreds of requests to read over the last few months.
