I put off writing this review because I am a therapist, work with children, and planned to use the book as a supplement to group work. I thought it would be useful to include a reference to that, so I held off. The problem is the book never made it to work. I opened it, got sucked into making a geometry tree, and am still working through the rest of the book several weeks later.In my profession I am so busy looking out for other peoplesâ feelings I sometimes donât have time to feel my own. Self-care is a constantly evolving theme in my life, so something that allows me to quiet my mind, inspire my creativity, and give me a few minutes to focus on myself is a priceless gift. I could write more but would rather go work on my fingerprint self-portrait while I wind down for the evening. Apparently when I order another copy to use at work I should include one for my adult groups as wellâ¦â¦
I received a review copy of this book and I was mighty impressed and started doing the ideas in my own art journal - no need to wait for the kids! I love that there is a mix of drawing ideas for kids (and grown-ups!) do try by themselves and with their friends. Many of the ideas are designed to get your kids to laugh, and we all like something better if it makes us smile, so this would be a great drawing book for those kids who say they don't like to do art. But best of all, you do not have to be "good at art" in order to enjoy these drawing games, and do them well. So get creative and get out the art supplies!
I would compare the arrival of this book on our doorstep to that of Maria in The Sound of Music. Except instead of brightening our lives with music, Jeanette Nyberg has brought the art of drawing into our home. Our dining table is now covered with drawings by me and my 5-year-old daughter. I originally bought it to keep us occupied on a 7-hour car ride - and it worked beautifully for that. Now my daughter is a Tangle Art and Drawing Game addict. It's the first thing she asks for when she comes home from school and we've even made it part of our bedtime routine. This has added a whole new dimension to my relationship with her. We now spend hours drawing together, and making each other giggle with the brilliant array of games presented in this book. What I love is that these are simple prompts that even a young child can follow and get almost immediate delight from. For me personally, it has broken me out of my doodling rut. I have been doing the same doodles since the 8th grade! This has been and idea factory for me and my own creativity. So yeah, get this book!
My 5 and 6 year olds Love this! I thought my youngest would be too young, but he totally took to a number of the fun and creative ideas. We've only tried a few, but flipping through, it looks like there's not a dud in the bunch. We're all excited to explore more.
I was sent a review copy of this book. This book will teach kids that they will never be bored if they have a piece of paper and a pen or pencil! As another reviewer mentioned, the exercises are entertaining for ALL ages - not just kids! I love the light humor that is spread throughout the book - both in the text and in the choices of activities. This book will brighten any day, while inspiring all sorts of creative drawing.
I adore this book! I received a review copy and we have been playing for days. It's perfect for kids and adults of all ages and full of simple, creative games that I've never seen before. Great for encouraging creativity and problem solving and curing boredom! Would make a great gift!
I bought this book for my grandson and offered me a kindle version for a âlower than the kindle was priced at âprice. So I got the Kindle for myself (after reading a couple reviews) and started to play. This book is great to loosen anyone up and get drawing. There are soooo many books on copying the zentangle patterns to learn how to doodle and draw. While I love those books âyou are still being taught to copy someone's designs. This book gets kids drawing through the exercises. They learn to create their own versions and take the designs their way. Even if you are not a kid you can use this book to get your imaginations going -have some fun and draw away.
I adore this book! It is full of easy and entertaining drawing games for kids and adults, all you need is paper and pens and you're off! I love that the games typically start with something simple, such as draw some squiggles or a few circles, and then build on that foundation to create more detailed end results that will surprise you in their complexity. This is also a great book for parents when your kids come to you uttering, "I'm bored...," Tangle Art will keep them entertained and may even get them to work together if they chose to do some of the games with friends. And if you like a dash of humor with your art making, author Jeanette Nyberg has supplied plenty of commentary to chuckle at!
