Love this book. I teach 1st-12th visual art. Each page is visual and easy to read. Has interesting background info w/o having a lot to read. Perfect for the busy elem art teacher. Also impressed by the projects. I wish more art books were layed out this way. Covers all the artsts i would want to teach kids about (and them some).
Two painting reproductions made me question what was going through the head of the author: one of cadaver dissection by Rembrandt, and one of the firing squad execution by Goya. Sure, those are great paintings, but do they really belong in a book intended for 7 year old children? Couldn't the authors find some examples of Rembrandt and Goya that wouldn't give kids nightmares?Overall, the book is average; there must be much better and more comprehensive art history books for kids.
Provides an excellent overview of well known artists and their work in an accessible and kid friendly format. It even offers ideas for fun art projects you can easily do at home in a variety of styles and mediums. This book is quite interesting, and a fun read for kids and adults alike. Another reviewer pointed out that there is a painting depicting an autopsy, and one showing a firing squad that some people may not feel is appropriate for their children to view. I wouldn't miss out on this gem based on that alone. I just mention it so you can read together if that is a concern for you.
This book is great introduction to art, styles and artists. Bonus: it's appropriate for the art room=no nudes. It's easy to read, interesting and has great projects based on the art.
Art History as well as simple lessons that go along with them. This is a very nice book and a nice addition to our home school studies. My granddaughter is in the third grade and these lessons work well for her grade level.
I purchased this book mainly for my 10 yr old son, but I have two girls, aged 16 & 14, that will be using it as well. We just received it today, and we were looking at all the artist and information. I'm so happy that I bought this book. It's full of great information and art to show children ...and adults! My son was so excited to learn about some of the artist.
This is a wonderful art book for children (& adults)! I purchased this book as a gift for an elementary school art teacher and then had to buy a copy for myself! The style of the great artists is shown and elements demonstrated with an exercise to teach that element! Beautiful book!
I like this book and believe that most students would enjoy it as well. The writing is interesting and the art work is fantastic. I would want this book in a school library or with the art teacher's collection. This book is a very good one to pique the interest of students in art and to introduce various methods and types of paintings. I was very pleased with it.
