This book is gorgeous. My husband and I are new parents and it has been a joy to sing these clasic lullabies for our new son. The CD is marketed by under the classical music section. It's entitled Lullabies: A songbook companion. It is beautifully recorded. The set is the perfect gift for new parents.
This book should be given with the CD (ESS.A.Y 1054) also made by Kapp. The combination is one of the finest presents imaginable for first-time parents. The same lullabies are sung by a fine professional soprano, Julianne Baird, and by Kapp's daughter Madeline. Mela Tenenbaum plays violin and viola and Kapp is at the piano, sometimes joining the singing. What joy and pleasure! How could .com have failed to promote the two items together?
This beautiful book has gorgeous slick illustrations from the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as clearly printed piano scoring to accompany the lullabies. It is by far the best book of its kind I've seen. I send it to every new baby on my list and hope it never goes out of print!
This collection is a "must have" for anyone who believes that music enhances both learning and bonding experiences for children of all ages.I purchased this book and accompanying CD for my 5 month old son. Four months later, he still loves the music. My husband and I sing a few songs to him every night as part of his bed time ritual, and then we play a few songs from the CD when we tuck him in. There are also a few livelier pieces for daytime play. As I expected, my son is still a bit young to appreciate the artwork, but the diverse illustrations will make a nice learning tool later.BTW- If you're bothered by the fact that the song order on the CD doesn't match that of the book, save it to your computer's hard drive, convert the files to MP3s, and change the order manually. Problem solved.
A beautiful book! Wonderful to have, especially if you read music. As a new parent, I love it and highly recommend it.If you want to learn more songs to sing to your children, this is a very special way to do it.
Love this book. The illustrations are beautiful. Makes you want to like the book right away. The lullaby arrangements are beautiful: not difficult, but not so easy that the songs sounds thin or trite. Paper is high quality. Only possible negative: many of the songs require a page-turn. (Still, it's worth turning the page!) I've never found such lovely arrangements of children's songs.
This book gives a decent selection of common and not so common lullabies - so if you are looking to expand your repetoir - this book is for you. If you can't read music or play an intrument - a quick search on youtube will provide you with examples of the lullaby in question to help you sing it your self. The art work is nice. Most songs only have one verse - I would have liked the other verses as well.
This is a gorgeous book with a wonderful compilation of lullabies and mother/baby artwork. The REAL reason I love it, though, is that it was the only lullaby book I could find that had chords written over the melody line so that the songs can be accompanied by guitar.
