I started playing mandolin about a year ago and got a fakebook with a bunch of classic songs. It included several hymns and children's songs, including Jesus Loves Me and He's Got the Whole World in His Hands. I learned these and decided to use my skills to play along and sing with the kids in the 2 and 3 year olds Sunday school class (they didn't know I was a lousy mandolin player!). The kids really liked it and had some requests for other songs. I searched the Internet and found this book on . When I got it, I was really happy with the content. It's got almost every song you'd sing in a traditional Sunday school class, and even a few non-traditional :) It says its for piano/vocal/guitar but you can think of it as a Fakebook Deluxe. It's got the lyrics, chords (with guitar fingering chart for each), melody line (treble clef), and piano treble/bass clef. There's enough musical information there for any instrument to play simple melody, chords, or something more creative.If you're working with Sunday school kids (or any group of Christian kids) and need some music, I'd really recommend this one.
Be sure to read the small print. I used the "look inside" feature from this site. So I was expecting the songbook that has 101 songs with a different format. I received the 50 songs songbook. I teach choir at my church for 4 and 5 year olds and this book is wonderful! It is filled with great songs that are fun, inspirational and easy to learn! I recommended this book to all who want to learn songs that their kids will be singing and enjoying for years to come.
I ordered this book because I needed songs that can be used with kids who are ages anywhere from 5 to 17 to adult.This book includes a majority of the songs I remembered from my youth. Our church is trying a new program this year of providing school supplies after a day of fun activities. We will involve the kids in the music experience during the registration time.The songs that especially interested me were: "Do Lord", "Arky, Arky", " Zacchaeus", "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands", "If You are Happy" ...upbeat songs that the kids can have fun with. There are many other songs that we will consider too. They are simple enough arrangements that I will be able to play (I am not the most accomplished pianist). We are providing rhythm instruments for them to accompany us to add to the fun.
Great fun. But deeper than that also. That is my first reaction that it is fun and easy to play, but there are deep truths in each verse of the songs. What a wealth of riches to give to children. Simple but powerful Christian songs.
This book has been such a blessing to my family. It is perfect for my aspiring pianists with its right hand melody and simple left hand. The songs do not exceed the challenge of one or two sharps or flats per song or simple two key chords. It is rewarding for my children to be able to play familiar praises. The songs are simple, but still singable.
This is a great collection of Christian Children's songs. A lot of the ones I learned growing up (Do Lord, Give Me Oil in My Lamp, The B-I-B-L-E, Climb Sunshine Mountain, Oh, How I Love Jesus, This Little Light of Mine ....and many more) plus some newer ones like Awesome God, What a Mighty God We Serve. It contained some hymns: For the Beauty of the Earth, Pass It On, Tell Me the Story of Jesus, and Nothing But the Blood. The arrangements were very pretty and not too difficult. I would definitly recommend it to anyone who works with children's church choir.
Really like most of the arrangements. I have played all of the songs over the few weeks I have had this book. Although they are fairly simple to play, they sound great, unlike many of the available compilations of kids' sacred songs. They are musically interesting, with chord progressions that are very melodic, and good rhythmic arrangements. There is a good selection, variety, and number of songs. I will use this a lot, and enjoy it, as will the kids.
