The Beatles Were Fab (and They Were Funny)

Q: How do you find all this business of having screaming girls following you all over the place? George: Well, we feel flattered . . . John: . . . and flattened. When the Beatles burst onto the music scene in the early 1960s, they were just four unknown lads from Liverpool. But soon their off-the-charts talent and offbeat humor made them the most famous band on both sides of the Atlantic. Lively, informative text and expressive, quirky paintings chronicle the phenomenal rise of Beatlemania, showing how the Fab Four’s sense of humor helped the lads weather everything that was thrown their way—including jelly beans.

At the American Library Association’s mid-winter Conference last month I spotted this new (well 2013) book on the Beatles in the children’s section and recently got a copy. It’s listed as a children’s book but, honestly, it’s a fun “collectible” for Beatles’ fans to own. The husband and wife authors and the illustrator are obviously big fans of the Fab Four and know their Beatles facts. The text is just long enough to make a short article titled something like “Funny things that the Beatles said over their career”, but when spread over 40 pages with colorful illustrations of the “mop tops” and great images of their record labels, it makes a book to read through. It’s probably a great way to explain the Beatles to young kids – though, as a self-reader for those just starting to read, the jokes would probably be above their heads. So, in three words - “Yeah, Yeah Yeah” – I’d recommend this book to Beatles fans. Yeeash the last 50 years really flew!I hope you found this review both informative and helpful.Steve Ramm“Anything Phonographic”

The Beatles were Fabby Kathleen KrullHarcourt 2013Ages 7 and up.This review and more like it can be found on Get Kids to Read. [...]This was an excellent biography book on the Beatles. I liked that it told the back stories of the Fab four in a way children could understand. The illustrations were excellently done. In an era of music like Justin Bieber, it is good to introduce children to what good music is. This book complemented with the best singles of the Beatles would be an excellent way to teach children about good music.I recommend this for children's libraries and for school libraries.

I've always loved the Beatles, ever since I was tire high to a Ford Falcon. When I say I love the Beatles, I am not kidding. I mean, I really love them! Paul and George are my favorite Beatles.Anybody who knows me will learn something about the Beatles sooner or later. Many of my younger relatives have become "Beatle savvy" as well as others. This is just a joy of a book and ideal for kids. You learn about Beatle themed humor; the boys' early days of touring and you can use this as a teaching tool for young readers. You and the children you share this gem with will want to enjoy it eight days a week and for fun, you can even scream for your favorite Beatle or Beatles! (Paul and George are always good for a shriek of joy from me.) Trust us, you will enjoy the information and the photos in this gem eight days a week!

I've always loved the Beatles, so I've taught my little sister to love them, too. She's six years old, and when she saw this book, she just had to have it. She begged me to read it to her. She loved hearing all about their early years as a group, and I even learned a thing or two. With every page-turn, she would squeal with joy (just like an original Beatlemaniac) and point out each Beatle to me. "There's John Lennon, and Paul McCartney, and Georgie Harrison, and Ringo! Ringo's my favorite!" This book is well-written for young children while also being informative and accurate. The Beatles were, indeed, fab... and they were funny.

Now here’s a neat little book. The Beatles Were Fab (and They Were Funny) is the story of The Fab Four aimed at young readers. It’s listed at ages 6-9, but readers of all ages will enjoy this illustrated and condensed version of musical history. I’d say Stacy Innerst’s illustrations are the true star of the show, but that would diminish the authors’ wonderful job in presenting a clever, factual and, yes, funny presentation. You can read my complete review at [...] or submit your own review. Detailed enough to pique one’s curiosity, funny enough to share a laugh, and illustrated with obvious affection, this is a read that should be enjoyed by boomer parents and their kids as well as fans of all ages.

What a fun addition to my Beatles collection. My sister, the librarian, turned me on to this book.I ordered it immediately!

In the 1960s, Beatlemaina hit in full force. These four teens from London were in for the ride of their lives. Fame and fortune could have easily gone straight to their heads, but through it all they were able to keep a great sense of humor. Some of those great instances are recorded in this picture book. This would be a great book to read to children to introduce them to The Beatles.

This is a children's book about the Beatles. I don't remember reading in the product information that is was a children's book. It is a cute story with great illustrations. Being a Beatles fan and having read many books about them this one doesn't contain anything new or different but the fact that it is geared for kids makes it unique. Great way to introduce your young kids to a great band and keep Beatlemania going for another generation.
