My son is taking piano lessons. The instructor uses this series of books to instruct from. He uses both the Lesson and Theory books. My son is language delayed, however, the approach in this book has enabled him to perform at the same level as his peers and even above average. The Lesson books and Performance books come with a CD that the student can play along to; both a practice tempo and performance tempo. If you are thinking about starting to play yourself or want to start your child playing piano, I think this series is a good investment.
I love the Alfred's system, and appreciate being able to get it delivered to my door, instead of heading into downtown and rifling through the files of a huge music store when I need new books for my students.
I have been teaching piano for over 10 years and I find this series to be very comprehensive. It's a great improvement on the orinal Alfred's course. This series also has other great books like theory, Christmas, performance, etc.
I am a piano teacher and this series is the best I have ever used for my students. I've been teaching for almost 20 years and I've been very impressed by the layering of difficulties and the amount of music theory that is covered in the set. I'd recommend purchasing the theory book that is adjacent to the lesson book. The performance books aren't as necessary, although they are fun, especially if a student needs more practice on a technique before advancing to the next song.
I teach the premier piano course and I have been very happy with the piano course books! These are great for kids ages 7+ and the songs are interesting to play.
